New version of Blynk Platform. Sign up for Beta

Yeah sure! “Somebody” can’t get it unless “someone” decide to release it to the public. Other way “someone” might eventually think, he’s been hacked and robbed.

the new version was announced, but it was just an announcement effect !
before, when they announced a new version, it was online within 24 hours.

Yes we should be happy about that! How’s that a face punch? Is there any bugs or issues that needs to be fixed? No right? It works perfect and you can use it still.

They need to earn money and took this decision, they made it free for soo long, and still is free for the present local server. What more can you wish for?

I think its people like you who use these free products for comercial stuffs and earn revenue.

you can still use one of the opensource platforms on the web

I’m very happy to be beta tester since 2 years, but you are right, if one day my contribution will be forgotten and I will just become an ordinary user and have to pay, I’ll be angry !

Ugly ???!

NICE! And you say it is Virtuino? I’ve never seen anything similar on Virtuino.

@demlak, I’ve deleted your post because of these two comments, which were apparently aimed at @Nilava_Chowdhury

The rest of your post made some valid points, but for me these personal attacks were unacceptable.
Please keep the tone friendly and courteous in future.

Pete.

For real? My well formulated part is deleted for the part that you don’t want show up in here… and then you copy this part and show it again for everyone? what the hell is going on here?

i was not personally attacking… i was replying on the personal attack by another person… and now, when i got valid points against YOUR bahaviour, you just delete it…

this unbelievable… is there any backup/copy of my text anyhere in here? i am not a native english person and it took me long time to write it down… you kick this work with your shoes like… damn, i’m very angry about this!

I’ve just sent it to you by PM.

before I knew Blynk, I tested Virtuino.
the interface is so ugly !
The only alternative to Blynk is openhab and there is a big community too, but I do not want to start from scratch again.

since a mod said, my words were not “accepable” i write it again without the “unaccaptable words”:
@Nilava_Chowdhury and all others who seem to not understand the difference of an announcement… a money making… a feature-delay in contrast to a “come on… be happy about what you have!”

Since you show, that you did not understand the criticism, i’ll explain it:

  1. The criticism is not about any money-making. it is not about any future payment plans (there are no payment plans public… so what to criticize right now?). in my world, it is no problem when people get money for their work - also money from me.
if there is a product with a price, it is my decision to buy or not. but at the current state there will be no product that i can spend money on in near future. future-plans are no products… they are just future-plans. future-plans can change.
so, the criticism does not base on any money-making decision.

  2. the criticism is about a structure change that affects many people who are the base of a growing product. Those people contributed to the community, and also with ideas and bug reports - something like “beta-testers” for the upcoming commercial product. those people now have to worry that they are shaken off of a process they also shaped - because future-plans are just future-plans and no products.

At the same time, those people are people who care about privacy and digital freedom - values! Telling those people, that their part and values are not important anymore, is hard to see - and maybe a shame. but that’s life… in a capitalist world, where we didn’t pay money for a product, we have to live with that… and we have to wait for the future-plans - wait for promises to get real.

But telling people they should be happy about, when their values and contributions are beeing ignored, is a disrespectful facepunch!

and AGAIN: this criticism is not about money making. Sometimes people mean what they write… not what you read between the lines.

p.s. @PeteKnight i also could stand for deleting the accusation of @Nilava_Chowdhury which says, that i have lower motives and so on… but i like free speech… so i don’t want it to be deleted… i want it to be discussed!

not sure “announcement” is the best place to discuss about that.
but I’m sure that blynk staff will take care of our long contribution that helps them to grow.

Alexis

You use the word “critic” extensively in your “well formulated part”, but I have to say that is doesn’t make much sense in the context that you’ve used it.

Maybe re-wording this would make it more understandable to others?

BTW, if you come across a post that you find unacceptable then just flag it for review then one of the moderators will take a look at it.

Hey, hey calm dowm, this was supposed to be an announcement discussion.

@PeteKnight its better to delete my and demlak’s conversation from this public community post.

@demlak i didn’t mean to target you or anything, we can have this conversation in private messaging instead of the public post.

Apologies to the community for spoiling the real discussion.

Since the trigger of this topic (my criticism) was made by @PeteKnight and since he is a mod, i don’t think, this is too offtopic. obviuosly it is a topic of interest.

and again: deleting is cencorship… there are always better solutions than deleting.

p.s. my use of the word “critic” was wrong. google translate tells me, i should use “criticism”… i will edit my posting above.

There is a point I can agree with you: Yes! Switching over to a new product and leaving behind the old one with all the cooperating community is not a nice solution. Is it a face-punch? I don’t know, maybe a gentle one. But it seems to me Blynk team had split its development process a long time ago, with the “Business line” being a priority. A lot of users were awaiting for web interface (I’m using node-red for that purpose) and only recently they were informed, that… No, there will be NO web interface for YOU, and you, and for you too, unless… You switch-over to a new product. A new product, not an update to existing one, not even an “upgrade”. Just NEW. And in this aspect there is only one “tiny” scratch: Some people had paid some real money for it. THEY, and ONLY THEY has a right to complain. And I’m not the one. I’m using Blynk almost from the beginning and quite soon switched over to private server and I really like the freedom and security it offers (I’m currently not using devices that are outside local LAN). Will I switch to Blynk 2? Not right from its startup - that is for sure. The rest is an unknown future.

Yes @marvin7, we faced some technical issues that prevent us from “upgrading” the old product. We do not want to fight against these circumstances so we decided to move on, offering a new product.

That is completely understandable for me and as an “old” user I do trust the Blynk Team. YET I do understand some harsh reaction to this news coming from some of our community members, especially if they were awaiting (long?) for some features. It would be probably better if those features were not announced earlier, but just introduced (in current or new version). That’s the human nature: We all know the “Hey! But You promised!” phrase…
