Just got the latest iOS update (great to see all the juicy new widgets!) Nice work guys - still waiting for that IPCam viewer though! I enabled the Push Notification widget. A few questions:
The only setting is to turn it off / on. Are there other settings? Or just notification when the hardware goes offline.
How does Blynk check this? Some sort of ping and delay tracking? The reason I ask is that my IoT Garage Monitor project has some issues and does go offline, but it takes about a minute to come back online. When I enabled this feature, soon after it sent a notification indicating it was offline, but when I checked it was still online (could not have restarted in that time). If it uses some sort of delay, it would be nice to be able to configure that delay in the future. For example, for this project, I would have it wait for the device to be offline for over 1 minute before I wanted a notification sent.
Well. Hardware sends periodically ping message. In case server doesn’t retrieve those ping message within 15 seconds interval from last ping command - notification is triggered. In case of local server you could change this interval via server property.
Already noted in my OP, but it would be nice to have control over that 15 second ping timeframe that you’ve hard coded.
There are all sorts of other ideas that could come from this. i.e. maybe when a gauge widget hits a certain threshold, trigger a notification with custom message? Same for temp… the list could go on…
@Rahul. Please don’t threadcrap other peoples threads as it confuses the discussion. This is specific to push notifications - you can create your own thread.
Just a couple of requests to the iOS platform; first being able to change password in-app as opposed to having to request ‘admin’ to set it for you. Is that possible ??
Also will there be an iPad app coming ?? That would be amazing !!
Great work folks - look forward to start tinkering ;0)
Ahh! I’ve been waiting for this. Thank You very much. I have the desire to monitor the environment in our house; smoke, intrusion, a few more. I was confused by the Push Notification in that when setting up the widget, the description is ‘NOTIFY WHEN HARDWARE GOES OFFLINE’ which gives the impression the widget will only function under that condition, I see in your reply to another post referencing the PushNotification example sketch that the Push notification will function under a condition(s) met in user’s code. Correct? So ‘NOTIFY WHEN HARDWARE GOES OFFLINE’ is merely labeling?
I updated on iphone and ipad. I initially tried to incorporate the Push Notification widget on the iphone but deleted it, being confused about the labeling and exited Blynk. After some investigation I attempted again only to find the Blynk app exited on it’s own when attempting to add that widget. I deleted the app and downloaded again. Same problem. Rebooted phone. Now when I call up Blynk it displays Connecting , Syncing Profile and exits. The app on the I pad seems to function fine.
Ah, wait. It only appears to exit. I’ve discovered that screen goes to ‘home’ but the application is still running. Bringing the application to use brings up the Blynk opening screen, goes to Connecting , Syncing Profile and repeats to the screen going to ‘home’. Calling for active apps shows Blynk is still running. Any ideas?
I think the ‘NOTIFY WHEN HARDWARE GOES OFFLINE’ is more to give the user the ability to enable this function without needing any additional code on the device, they can monitor this already, an additional notifications you want to add will need to be custom generated based on events on the controllers.
We should definitely make it more clear. We’ll think about how to do it. Interestingly, we had no comments like this from Android users - they are using this feature for a month already.
So,
when you put Push Notifications widget - it activates PNs. Just look at the example sketch to see how to send them when you want
Since we are not living in a perfect world yet, sometimes things go offline. We wanted you to be able to be aware of that. So we added this SETTING in the Widget, when our super server will keep an eye on your device. And if it goes offline - it will notify you in 15 seconds.
Any suggestions to get Blynk to work on my iphone. It did before. Right now It’s tap on Blynk app icon, Connecting , Syncing Profile, crash - tap on Blynk app icon, Connecting , Syncing Profile, crash - tap on Blynk app icon, Connecting , Syncing Profile, crash.
Hello:
This is slightly off from the original conversation but I didn’t want to create another topic with the same or similar title. Anyway…
I am back on iOS after testing Android for brief moment (not for me).
I’m so glad to see the new widgets especially the notification widget. But sadly, it doesn’t seem to be working for me. Well, it worked last night, but today it only works if Blynk is open and the iPhone screen is on.
I am probably wrong, but are you using your own version of a notification and not the official iOS notification system? The reason I ask is:
I have Blynk set to use banner notifications in iOS settings and pop-up alerts are still what appears…when it works.
The alerts don’t show when the screen is off.
The alerts don’t show on the lock screen.
Tonight, notifications are barely working. Only once in a while and when the Blynk app is running an on the screen and only after a huge delay.
