it would be nice to have a widget in the app to notify when a newer version of the library is available.

Well, it’s not going to be a separate widget I think.
The app will be able to display different messages to the user (like it displays connection status right now).

Could work.
If one could share a Project with others in future, I assume there will be a “read only” option where the “project master” can configure the App, and the “others” can then only use the widgets as configured.
In such a case, I would prefer not to have the “clients” get messages about an out of date library
