We’re changing how datastream names appear across the Web Console. Starting September 1, instead of showing the raw datastream Name (which often contains technical formatting, prefixes, or special symbols), the console will show the Display Name field.
Why
Datastream names are often written for developers, not end users — things like temp_sensor_01_raw or V12_pump_state. End users see these names in dashboards, reports, and automations, where a human-readable label works better. Display Name lets you keep your technical naming intact while showing users something friendly.
Where you’ll see the change
Display Name will be used in:
- Column management
- Automation actions and conditions
- Device data reports
- Chart legends and tooltips
- Custom Chart legends and tooltips
What you need to do
Display Name is pre-filled with the datastream Name by default, so nothing will break. But if your datastream names aren’t end-user friendly, we recommend reviewing them before Sep 1:
- Open your Template → Datastreams
- Check the Display Name field for each datastream (add the column via column management if it’s hidden)
- Replace technical names with labels your end users will understand (e.g.
temp_sensor_01_raw→Temperature)

If you used Display Name for internal notes
Some of you have been using this field for internal documentation. Since Display Name is now end-user facing, we’ve added a dedicated Notes field to datastream settings — move any internal documentation there.
