Looking to get a new iPhone to replace my IPhone 8+ which I have been running for 7 years ago Wondering if anyone has experience running legacy app newer iPhone like a IPhone 16?
Don’t even know if there is a way to test it without buying a new phone loading the app using AppleID purchased apps.
Sorry I couldn’t find a better Category.
When you do the migration to the new phone, each app is created as a placeholder on the new phone, then the latest version of each app is downloaded from the app store.
Any app (and there might be a few) that no longer exists or isn’t compatible with your current iOS version won’t be useable and you’ll be prompted to delete the placeholder.
As Blynk Legacy is no longer available in the app store, you’ll lose access to the app.
I guess it would be possible to jailbreak your new phone and sideload the app (assuming that you can find the files) but you’d be crazy to do that to your new iPhone because you’d immediately void the warranty and lose the ability to do iOS updates.
Time to look for a new solution I think.
Pete.
thanks for your response, and agree with your comments. I do have access to my Blynk Legacy App thru my Apple ID so I can load it without the App Store. Unfortunately I must buy a new phone to try it. I know the odds are slim but was just wondering is anyone actually tried it on a relatively new iPhone, and did it fail. Hoping to by some time to migrate to another app. I’m addicted to having many devices & I/O on my phone.
Have tried several Arduino Cloud, AWS, Blynk Cloud, etc none as simple for a non programmer novice or usability very limited. Trying Remote XY now.
Amazing Blynk was so ahead of its time, and someone else haven’t cloned it yet.
Thanks again.
It seems you disagree with my description of how the process works.
I can confirm, from personal experience, that upgrading to a new iPhone will leave the Blynk IoT placeholder there, but the app can’t be launched because it can’t be downloaded from the App Store.
Pete.
FYI
I just got my new iPhone 16, in transferring everything I had on old phone via my AppleID. It transferred my old Blynk Legacy app, and it WORKS!
