SoftwareSerial issues

Trying to build on the ESP8266 samples and get this error when trying to incorporate the SoftwareSerial library? I have the library and it works with my other sketches. I Googled something referencing the differences with the ESP8266 chip not being a ATMega, but is there another option similar to SoftwareSerial (looking to write to an LCD).

fatal error: SoftwareSerial.h: No such file or directory

This question is not related to the Blynk library.
It looks like SoftwareSerial is not supported in ESP8266 yet…
