Remote control for Raspberry Pi

I’m using a Raspberry Pi 2 B. Is it possible to use Blynk as a remote control?

Here’s an outline of how it’s going to be:

  1. I’ll have a video player gui on my raspberry pi. On it is a list of videos.
  2. On Blynk I’ll use the joystick widget to scroll through the list of videos, then use a button widget to select the video. Maybe some more buttons for starting and stopping the video.

Is this possible? What kind of programming knowledge will I require, and is there any sample code for interacting with the Pi that I can work with?

Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, it is possible. the simplest way would be to use Blynk JS library for that. Using JS you could easily invoke any shell command with minimum efforts.
